The Culture and Quirks of The Catskills
Join our expert guide, Hilary Pierce Hatfield, for a two-hour presentation/tour of some of the fascinating highlights of the history, art, and culture found within just 10 miles of Deer Mountain Inn. Our area has served as an inspiring haven for artists, writers, and social misfits for centuries, including the famous author Mark Twain. They developed a purely American genre of art called The Hudson River School.
Guests will begin in our Attic with a refreshing mimosa. Hilary will then give insight into the history of why this area is so special to so many.
The talk will then end with a quick hike to Kaaterskill Falls to see the views painted by the great American Artists such as Thomas Cole and Frederick Church. You will be delighted!
10am – 10:30am: Welcome drink.Arrival and a look around the Inn
10:30am – 11:30am: Presentation in the attic.
11:30am + drive to Mountain Top Historical Society and then up to Kaaterskill Falls upper parking area with hike to Falls.
